Places to visit near Palmerston Park

Pubs

The nearest pub to the ground is The Spread Eagle which is just over the Buccleuch Street Bridge. Within a few yards of this is The Devorgilla, The Globe and The Salutation. Across the bridge on the Whitesands and Friars Venal there are many pubs and in the town centre there are The Hole in the Wa', another Globe (good food) plus a few more. There is also a reasonable size social club at the rear of the Main Stand were away fans are always welcomed.

Grub

The Globe at the bottom end of the High Street (across from the Loreburn Centre) does good bar meals. In Queensberry Square is a Bistro. There are also cafes around the town centre and the Whitesands and near the ground, on the dual carriagewayed road, is the Palmerston Cafe which does great chips. The pies at the ground are also very good. About half a mile from the ground is McDonalds, from the by-pass take the Kilmarnock road for about 100 yards, and Kentucky Fried Chicken nearer the ground.

Nearby Cashpoints

The nearest cashpoint is in Tescos about 1/2 a mile away. Its a Royal Bank one but takes most cards. Dumfries High Street, like the rest of the world, has more cash points than shoppers and you'll have no problem finding one if you're in the town.

Nearby Bookmakers

You'll need to head into the town for the nearest bookies, there's a Ladbrokes at the bottom of Friar's Vennal (just of the Whitesands), a big one on Bank Street and another across from the Loreburn Centre. There are a couple of others dotted around the town centre. From 2008/09 season there is a Bookies located at the ground, behind the Main Stand.

Shopping

OK, I admit it, the only reason I get to away games is because 'I take the wife shopping'. If you're looking for an excuse, Dumfries has a not too bad shopping area, the biggest shops are Debenhams, New Look, WHSmith, Marks and Spencer, Boots and a local Department Store called Barbours. There are a few fashion and shoe shops (Next, Dorothy Perkins etc., hell, I don't know!) and the usual electrical outlets. The Loreburn Centre is not a bad under cover Shopping Centre with a mixture of large and small stores. There are a couple of out of town shopping areas on the by pass, one featuring Wicks, Comet, Curries plus furniture superstores, one across the road from this with Homebase and one of the Lockerbie Road roundabout featuring Matalan, TK Maxx,BM Home Stores and Brantano Shoes.
